Antonella D’Orazio

Antonella D’Orazio was born in Potenza (Italy) in 1958. She received the Laurea degree, summa cum laude, in Electrical Engineering from the University of Bari in 1983 and the Ph.D. in Electromagnetisms in 1987. Since 1983 she has joined the Dipartimento di Elettrotecnica ed Elettronica of the Politecnico di Bari. Since 2003 she is Full Professor in Electromagnetic Fields. She is married with Vito Santacesaria and is mother of Donato Giovanni and Francesca Cornelia.

Research Interests

Since 1983 her principal research interests have been in the areas of linear and nonlinear guided wave propagation for applications in the fields of telecommunications, sensing, biophotonics and mechatronics. Her present interests include the modelling and design of nanophotonic devices based on photonic crystals, microstructured optical fibers, metamaterials and plasmonic structures, MOEMS, fabrication and characterization techniques of optical devices in semiconductors (silicon and compounds, III/V alloy compounds) and ferroelectric garnets (lithium niobate), the modelling, fabrication and characterization of microwave devices based on electromagnetic bandgap structures, fractals and metamaterials.
